My approach to design
Figma is not the source of truth
Final designs don’t live in Figma, they live in code. As a user experience designer, I want to design the entire experience a user has, not just the visuals.
My handover process is not just kicking a file over the fence to be built.
I’m also starting to code myself, with assistance from Cursor / Copilot, so that I can control the final experience.
Perfect is better than done
Working at Ffern showed me that an insistence on polish is actually achievable.
This is especially true now, when dev tooling is so mature, and animation and component libraries are readily available.
There are definitely still times when perfection has to be compromised for speed of execution, but more and more, I want to push back on this, and strive for quality.
The bad ideas have to come first
At Skin + Me, we ship a ton of experiments to improve conversion and retention.
Spending just 5-10% more time coming up with a broader variety of ideas has led to us coming up with hidden winners.
No one comes up with a good idea straight away. Ideas are cheap. The bad ones have to come out first.

When he joined the project we had a lot of ideas but not a lot of structure or a system around them.
